Mission Statement

News & Clues (ISSN 0730-1618) is an electronic newsletter that seeks to promote reference resources, techniques, and cooperation between libraries and library staff. The newsletter serves the interests of the San Joaquin Valley Library System and the Heartland Regional Library Network. News & Clues is published quarterly, with the exception of the News & Events page, which is updated as news arrives.

Guidelines for Submitting Work

We are interested in contributions from staff working in the San Joaquin Valley Library System and from members of the Heartland Regional Library Network. Please submit your timely articles and information if they are of concern to the field of library science and the library profession. We are particularly interested in information or articles that deal with reference related issues. Only submit original work that properly cites and credits any sources (APA, MLA or Harvard Style Citation is acceptable). Upon publication, all rights return to the author. Contributors will be rewarded with the ability to share their expertise with other library professionals.

Queries may be sent by fax, but please send all submissions by mail or e-mail (Word attachment) to:

The History of News & Clues

News & Clues was first published in July of 1960 and was then published monthly until the middle of the 1990's, when it became a bimonthly publication. Later in the 1990's, because of a greater reliance on web pages to communicate timely information, News & Clues changed from a print publication to an electronic publication with the spring 2001 issue. While the newsletter is now issued quarterly, news is added to each issue on a daily basis. Browse the images below for a glimpse into the history of this newsletter or visit the online archives to view electronic issues.
