"OCLC FirstSearch is a comprehensive and complete reference service with a rich collection of databases and with links to the World Wide Web, over 7.5 million online full text articles, full-image articles from over 3,100 electronic journals, [and] library holdings... It supports research in a wide range of subject areas with well-known bibliographic and full-text databases in addition to ready-reference tools such as directories, almanacs and encyclopedias."

The Heartland Regional Library Network has provided its members with access to the OCLC FirstSearch service. With FirstSearch you can search more than fifty databases including SocialSciIndex, SIRSResearcher, RILM_Music_Abstracts, PsycFIRST, PAIS, HumanitiesIndex, GPO Monthly Catalog (1976 - present), BooksInPrint, ArtIndex, several business and science databases, and more. Many of these databases contain the full text of the articles that they index. To view a complete list of databases, see the instructions on how to access the Administrative Module below.

1. If you do not have your authorization and password, contact SJVIS.

2. You should become familiar with the Administrative Module. It is here that you can customize your access. Follow the link listed below. Use the same authorization and password that you use to access FirstSearch.

3. Many of the databases have the full text of articles, BUT you must enable this type of access. The default is for it to be disabled. Follow this procedure to enable full text access:
   • Access the Administrative Module for your account.
   • Select "Database Settings" from the navigation bar on the left.
   • Every database that has full text is listed twice, once for citation access and once for full text access. The default setting for full text access databases is unchecked. Check these and "Save Changes".
